How do others define your race?

I get such a wide range of responses dependent upon the environment that I am in. When I went to a heavily White boarding school, I was always Asian. When I went to a boarding school that was mixed, I got everything from Asian to Hispanic. There were rumors that I was Native American and Hawaiian. On the other hand, when I traveled to Japan, a lot of people didn’t know I was Asian. They thought I was Hispanic or White. There are always moments when I am either the token Asian or I am completely White. It is interesting which side I have to defend. Either I say, “No I am half-White.” Or I say, “No, I am half-Asian.” People just don’t know.
